Nature
The Hotel Aurora offers it personal guests not only warm hospitality, refined cuisine and impeccable organisation, but also the possibility of discovering the naturalistic and cultural experiences linked to truly suggestive places, like the surrounding mountains and the charming river Mera which flows through the town.
The "Marmitte dei Giganti" park is an extraordinary naturalistic and archaeological trail with the antique "marmitte" (pots) in soapstone, the cave paintings and unique plants and flowers.
Close by you can find the "Paradiso" botanical gardens with hundreds of species which adorn the cliffs and caves.
The spectacular "Acqua Fraggia" waterfalls, situated 2 km from the Hotel, offers a panoramic path alongside. Here you can fish for trout in the river Mera, by fly-fishing or spinning.
Numerous summer or winter excursions on offer: mountain-bike, trekking, mountaineering and skiing, both towards Switzerland (St.Moritz) and the Splugen Pass (Madesimo).
Other marvels
Other "pearls" not to be missed in Chiavenna are the Museum, with fossils and archaeological finds, antique prints and geographical maps; the 16th century Vertemate Palazzo, rich with furnishings, frescoes, wood carvings and marquetry; the Treasure of San Lorenzo’s church, with sacred 15th century furnishing, engravings in silver and gold-plated copper; the antique Bottonera mill.
Not far from Chiavenna, to the South, there are the marvels of Lake Como, both on the eastern shore as far as Lecco, and on the western shore which leads to Como.
